Daniel Lee
viola
Korean-Canadian violinist/violist Daniel Hanul Lee carries a passion for music which goes beyond traditional boundaries of genre and repertoire on the instrument. Equally at home on the stage as orchestral soloist, recitalist or chamber musician, he has performed extensively throughout Canada, and the United States. Recent Chamber music appearances have included a performance of Tchaikovsky’s Sextet “Souvenir de Florence” with the Borromeo String Quartet in Jordan Hall. Daniel has performed as a soloist with Toronto Symphony Orchestra and Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra. As an orchestral musician, Daniel has served as a concertmaster of the New England Conservatory Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonietta and Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra under conductors Sir Andrew Davis, Peter Oundjian and Si-Yeon Sung. This past summer, he worked with Tokyo String Quartet and Keller String Quartet at Norfolk Chamber Music Festival. Dedicated to different genre and appreciation of music, Daniel was a founding member of Roads To You with Artistic Director Zade Dirani. This touring group of talented young musicians dedicates itself to the exposure of Classical and Arabic music. The group has performed in front of Queen Noor and Queen Rania of Jordan and First Lady Laura Bush.
Daniel received his undergraduate degree at New England Conservatory in Boston with Malcolm Lowe, Concertmaster of Boston Symphony Orchestra. Currently, he is pursuing his Masters in Viola performance at The Juilliard School in New York as a pupil of Heidi Castleman and Hsin-Yun Huang.
