Stuart Stephenson
trumpet
Trumpet player Stuart Stephenson is active as an orchestral, chamber, and solo musician, playing regularly in the New York City and Washington D.C. areas. He has appeared at some of the most prestigious venues in the United States, including the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, the Strathmore, Avery Fischer Hall, the Peter Jay Sharp Theater and the Schlesinger Concert Hall. Stephenson has performed in concert with members of the National Symphony Orchestra, and was the 2nd place finalist in the National Trumpet Competition in 2007.
Stephenson is looking forward to expanding his contemporary music repertoire with the Mimesis Ensemble. He recently performed at the Bachauer Scholarship event with his ensemble, the Vandalay Brass Quintet, premiering Eric Ewazen’s Bachauer Fanfare. He coached with Ewazen on this piece, which was heard on live radio at WQRX 96.3 in New York City.
Stephenson is currently a student at The Juilliard School in NYC, studying with Raymond Mase. A native of Washington D.C., his previous teachers included Adel Sanchez, Tom Cupples and Jim Bittner. In addition to the trumpet, he also studied the piano extensively since he was 6 years old. This background has contributed to his musical ideas and nuances as a trumpet player.
