Matthew McDonald

A native of Huntsville, Alabama, Matthew McDonald is the Co-Principal bassoon of the ProMusica Chamber Orchestra in Columbus, Ohio. As a soloist, Matt has performed with several orchestras including the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra and The Cleveland Orchestra. In a recent performance, Matthew premiered Christopher Weiss’ “Six Past Midnight”, a bassoon concertino written for him with The Curtis Symphony Orchestra.
Matt began studying the bassoon with Hunter Thomas, principal bassoon of the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra. He later began studies with Benjamin Kamins of Rice University, and Barrick Stees at the Cleveland Institute of Music.
He has spent his summers studying and performing at such festivals as the Music Academy of the West, Tanglewood Music Center, and Spoleto Festival USA.
A graduate of the Young Artist Program of the Cleveland Institute of Music, Matthew is a student of Bernard Garfield and Daniel Matsukawa at the Curtis Institute of Music.
